What Consumes Your Mind, Controls Your Life
October 16, 2017
Do you ever have those feelings or emotions that just control you? Something that overtakes you? What are those things you deal with? Think about that for a second... Maybe it’s an issue you’ve dealt with your whole life, maybe it’s something that has come on by a certain event and now it’s your norm. You know the feeling. You just feel it all over your body. It’s like your body generates it and it’s pulsating throughout your being. I don’t know if it’s exactly the same for everyone. I have talked to a few people (guys and girls) and it seems that with whatever particular feeling or emotion it just sort of takes ahold of you. Have you pin pointed yours yet? (Anger, hate, loneliness, depression, jealousy, lust, lying etc...) We all have different stories and different experiences but I think it’s safe to say that we all have battles we fight.
In the last part of Proverbs 30:16 it says, “fire, which never says, Enough!”We’ve seen the destruction that fire can bring and truly know that fire never says enough. I’m sure you’ve heard of the devastating fires in California. Fire will consume everything in its path, just like those things that can control us. I’ve talked about my struggles with anger and how it can be a major weakness in own my life. Most days I feel like I have to fight and with God’s help I win those battles. But today it seems to consume me and it feels very disheartening that I have to fight this every day.
“You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.”
I know that if I let it, it will control me. I choose God every day to fight for me and with me. I pray His protection over my mind and my emotions because I know that I cannot do it alone. When I have tried alone, I have ultimately been defeated. I know that like fire it can bring devastation to my kids, my husband, and anyone else when I let my fire spread. My words are sharp and piercing and in the wake of my destruction I’ve not only hurt myself but I’ve hurt others. That does not mean I win my battles every day and yes I have done hurtful things with my anger but I’m learning to control it. I don’t want it to rule me.
Do you rule or are you ruled?
I think the first thing to realize is what our “fire” can do. We harm and hurt others and we hurt ourselves. We need to know that the enemy knows where to tempt us and push us and so just the same we should know these areas and work on getting stronger.
Know how to fight. Cover yourself daily in the armor of God. Pray and read scripture over your life. His word is alive, and His words are life changing. Find people around you to confide in, and find those who have walked similar paths and deal with similar “fires” in their lives. I believe we all have a story and a battle we fight. Our stories are so powerful; your story is so important! Though we may fall we can always get back up. Our stories bring freedom and healing to others no matter the mistakes we make because it shows we are human, it shows we are not perfect, and ultimately it can change lives. You are not alone in your fight. We are all in this together.
Let’s start fighting together.
When you pray, real things happen that wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t. Your prayers move the hand of God. –John Piper
I want this to be a place to have a conversation. A place where we can be real. I believe when we talk about things, hard things, raw things that we can start to feel a freedom in that. Our stories are powerful! What better way than to fight together.
Let me know if you’d like to share a part of your story.
